What Are the Benefits of Installing a Heat Pump in Your Home?

  • Two-in-one performance: You have all your comfort needs taken care of in a single installation. Just make an adjustment to your thermostat to change from one mode to the other.
  • Safe: You don’t need to use a gas-powered furnace for heating—a heat pump is a safer heating method. The exterior of a heat pump doesn’t even get hot in heating mode.
  • Efficiency: Heat pumps have great energy efficiency, especially in heating mode where they can help you save hundreds of dollars compared to a gas or electric furnace.
  • Environmentally friendly: The efficiency of heat pumps makes them a great choice to benefit the environment.

Understanding Heat Pump Efficiency Ratings and What They Mean

Heat pumps have two efficiency ratings you need to pay attention to: SEER2 and HSPF2. SEER2 (Seasonal Energy Efficiency Rating 2) is a measure of how efficiently a heat pump operates in cooling mode, while HSPF2 (Heating Seasonal Performance Factor 2) is the efficiency of the heat pump in heating mode. The higher the number, the greater the efficiency, and SEER2 is always higher than HSPF2 for any given heat pump. The current minimum requirements for heat pumps are 14.3 SEER2 and 7.5 HSPF2, but you can find units with higher efficiency than this.

How to Choose the Best Heat Pump for Your HVAC Needs

Like any major HVAC installation, a heat pump must have professionals do the actual work. We recommend you bring our team onboard early to help you make the choice for the right heat pump for your home. It’s important to get the correct unit, since heat pumps can suffer from efficiency troubles in extreme cold weather. We’ll help ensure that the heat pump you have will be able to deal with the coldest temperatures each year and keep you warm.

Heat Pump Repair and Maintenance: Why Regular Service Is Essential

Any HVAC system needs routine maintenance from pros to ensure it runs effectively, efficiently, and for the longest possible service life. Because heat pumps work as both heaters and air conditioners, they must have maintenance twice annually. We make this part of our Planned Maintenance Program so you won’t have to worry about keeping up. And if you ever find your heat pump isn’t working properly, Affordable Heating & Air Conditioning, Inc. has fast targeted repair service to correct it.
